Eastenders are planning a huge 30th anniversary celebration next month which will see a week of live episodes, the culmination of the ‘Who Killed Lucy Beale’ storyline and the return of several characters (including Jo Joyner as Tanya Branning).
Naturally, there has been a lot of rumours about what other legendary Eastenders characters might be making a cameo appearance – with a lot of talk of Barbara Windsor once again reprising her role as the Mitchell matriarch Peggy Mitchell.
One character who definitely won’t be returning, though, is Peggy’s son Grant Mitchell.
Ross Kemp has said in a recent interview that he has no plans to return to Albert Square as Grant – blaming scheduling problems with his other projects.
Kemp told What’s On TV recently:
“It’s really good that fans would like to see Grant come back and it’s testament to me and to EastEnders that the character was so great. But I’m still filming and editing the last episode of Extreme World so, as much as I’d love to be there, I can’t because I’m busy.”
Kemp went on to say he wouldn’t rule out a return for Grant completely:
“I owe Grant and EastEnders a lot. I’m really proud of the fact I was in the soap for so long and won a lot of awards voted for by the public… You can’t rule things out in this life. I’m very fortunate to be in the situation I am at the moment. I’d probably be a better actor now than I was when I was doing it because I’ve had a break from it and I’ve probably got a better understanding of the process, so I’d love to have a go. One things for sure, it would be a f****** holiday compared to what I do now!”
